The State of New York Initiative

To address the impact of domestic violence on the New York State Workforce, Executive Order #19 (printer-friendly/pdf) requires the adoption of Domestic Violence and the Workplace Policies by all NYS agencies.1

One in four women will experience some level of domestic violence in their lifetime.2The State of New York Model Domestic Violence and the Workplace Policy provides uniform guidance and consistency for development of agency policies. 82,813 women are employed by NYS, 48.9% of the NYS workforce.3

For the purpose of this order “state agency” shall mean: (1) any state agency, department, office, board, commission or other instrumentality of the state: and (2) any public authority or public benefit corporation created by or existing under any State law, at least one of whose members is appointed by the Governor (including any subsidiaries of such public authority or public benefit corporation), other than an interstate or international authority or public benefit operation.
