Making Sure Survivors of Domestic and Sexual Violence Get the Help They Need New York State Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence
The Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence (OPDV), created in 1992, is the country’s only cabinet-level executive state agency dedicated to the issue of gender-based violence. It replaced the former Governor’s Commission on Domestic Violence established in 1983.
The NYS Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence’s work is completed under five main bureaus within our agency: Gender-Based Violence Prevention & Programming; External Affairs; Law Enforcement and Public Safety; Counsel’s Office; and Finance and Administration.
