Using the OPDV Web site
We hope that the information provided on this site will support your local training, educational, and community coordination activities to increase victim safety and promote offender accountability. While much of the information is specific to New York State, we hope that this site is a useful source of information to all those working to improve responses to domestic violence. As a content-driven site, we've organized it in a way that makes it easy for you to find information that will be most helpful to you in your efforts.
If you are a victim of domestic violence seeking information or assistance
Please refer to our section "What Help is Available" for information on state and local resources available for victims of domestic violence, and ways to identify domestic violence and information about safety planning. NYS Domestic Violence Hotline number is: 1-800-942-6906, English & español/Multi-language Accessibility Deaf or Hard of Hearing: 711. In NYC: 1-800-621-HOPE (4673) or dial 311 TTY: 1-866-604-5350
A note about our use of gender specific language
Because the vast majority of victims of adult domestic violence are women who are abused by their male partners, the content of the OPDV Web Site refers to victims as female and abusers as male. However, the majority of the content in this Web Site will apply to all victims regardless of their gender or the gender of their partner, including gays, lesbians, transgender people, and men who are physically abused by their female partners.
The universal banner and footer you see on the OPDV site can be seen on all New York State agency web sites. They provide a starting point or a gateway to NYS government and one-stop access to a broad range of information, services and transactions.
The Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence (OPDV) obtains information from various sources in an effort to provide the most comprehensive information available. Therefore, certain information presented on this web site may not represent material developed by OPDV. While OPDV makes every effort to post accurate and reliable information, it does not guarantee or warrant that the information on the web site is complete, accurate, or up-to-date. Unless otherwise noted, the information shall not be construed to represent the specific recommendation or opinion of OPDV. This web site is intended solely for the purpose of providing general information and convenient access to data and resources.
We will continue to expand and improve this site to make it as informative and user-friendly as possible.
