Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Help turn New York State purple and learn more about Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
There was a 21% increase in required* orders of protection issued from 2008 and a 26% increase from 2007. Every court experienced an increase from 2008 to 2009 and from 2007 to 2009. (Office of Court Administration)
This statistic is taken from the 2009 NYS Domestic Violence Dashboard
which compiles statistics related to domestic violence from many systems,
such as law enforcement, public assistance, domestic violence services,
and the courts. See
the entire document (pdf).
*These are orders of protection that are required to be recorded in the UCS’ Domestic Violence Registry.
