Do you need someone to go to court with you?
Contact your local domestic violence provider to request an advocate accompany you as soon as you know you need to go to court.
Domestic violence advocates are not attorneys. Their role is to provide you with emotional support throughout the court process and help you learn about your rights.
Call the advocate the day before your court appointment to confirm that he/she is definitely going to court with you.
It is also helpful to have a friend that you respect and trust accompany you to court for moral support, if an emergency comes up and the domestic violence advocate cannot be there for you.
